Beschreibung
Vimentin is a 57 kDa intermediate filament protein which forms part of the cytoskeleton of vertebrate cells and is characteristically found in cells of mesenchymal origin. In combination with other antibodies (in panels) it is useful for the subclassification of a given tumor, otherwise it is a limited diagnostic tool. Vimentin can be used to distinguish melanomas from undifferentiated carcinomas and large cell lymphomas. It marks a variety of mesenchymal cells, including melanocytes, lymphocytes, endothelial cells, and firbroblasts and can be used as a tissue process control.
