Beschreibung

Mesothelin is a 40 kDa protein that is expressed on the cell surface of normal mesothelial cells lining the pleura, peritoneum and pericardium. Its biological function is not known. Mesothelin is overexpressed in several human tumors, including mesothelioma, ovarian cancer, pancreatic adenocarcinoma and cholangiocarcinoma. Mesothelin may form a strong complex with MUC16 which may facilitate the implantation and peritoneal spread of tumors by cell adhesion leading to metastasis.
