GCDFP-15 (Gross cystic disease fluid protein, PIP, Prolactin-inducible protein) is a protein with antimicrobial activity and functions in apoptosis, tumor progression, fertility, and immune system. GCDFP-15 is regulated by androgen receptor. Expression is found in body fluids including breast cyst fluid, human milk, and saliva.
The antibody is a highly sensitive and specific marker for identification of breast cancer. Apart from this only few other tumors express GCDFP-15, such as prostate cancer and carcinomas of skin appendages.
