Beschreibung
Ep-CAM, also known as Epithelial Specific Antigen, is a transmembrane glycoprotein involved in cell adhesion in epithelia, in cell signaling, proliferation, differentiation and migration. Expression is found on most normal epithelia, within the cytoplasm of non-squamous epithela and epithelial derived neoplasms. Ep-CAM is overexpressed in certain carcinomas. Therefore, Ber-EP4 may be a diagnostic marker for various cancers including adenocarcinomas, neuroendocrine tumors, renal cell carcinoma, hepatocellular carcinoma and carcinomas of colon, pancreas and breast. Ber-EP4 is a sensitive marker of basal cell carcinomas.
