Calcitonin is a hormone, that reduces the levels of calcium and phosphate in blood by fixing of these ions in bones. This antibody recognizes calcitonin in calcitonin producing C-cells in normal thyroid. It has been shown to label C-cell hyperplasia and medullarythyroid carcinomas.
