Calcitonin is a polypeptide hormone and present in C cells of thyroid gland. It plays a role in calcium and phosphorus metabolism via lowering the level of calcium and phosphate in blood. The antibody is used for the detection of C cell hyperplasia and medullary thyroid carcinomas.
