Beschreibung
Alpha fetoprotein is a major plasma protein produced in liver and yolk sac during fetal development. It is the fetal form of serum albumin. This antibody recognizes endogenous levels of total AFP, especially in hepatocytes of fetal liver and hepatoma. Elevated levels of AFP in adults indicate lesions of liver, yolk sac carcinoma or other tumors. It reacts with germ-cell tumors and gonadal tumors.
